I'm cutting red meat/all meat from mammals out of my diet, so please don't just go on and on about the benefits, I know them. But, I know that people's iron often goes down because red meat is most people's main source of iron (and a good one at that) and that most vegetable sources of iron are extremely inefficient. So what should I do to combat that? Are eggs a good substitute? Or fish? Chicken? Milk? etc. etc.
What are some other things I should watch out for?
I'm not cutting out eggs, poultry, etc. so I don't have to watch out for getting enough protein (I drink enough milk to make up for that anyway, ha)
DO NOT tell me to not do this because of whatever stupid study that says that it's unhealthy to cut out red meat, because it is not unhealthy unless you don't do anything to combat the negatives.
Obviously leafy greens, but fish is a good source of iron as well.
You will not have to supplement. Besides, leafy greens and beans are the best sources of iron. Plus, it’s even easy for a vegan to get enough protein. Oatmeal, beans, nuts, seeds, and soy foods are packed with protein.
also, chicken, fish, and milk still toxins and antibiotics, as well as hormones found in dairy.
If you could easily drop it and not have any problems with intense cravings, why not cut meat out all together? It’s not like you need meat to thrive.
I eat very little meat and even less red meat. I have 4-8 onces of meat a week and that is plenty for me. You need about 30 grams(about 1oz) of protein a day and it can come from milk, chicken, fish or red meat.
Most Americans eat way more meat than they need or is healthy for them. I can’t imagine eating a 14oz steak but some people will eat that on a regular basis.
A good source of iron is to cook in a cast iron pan. A spaghetti sauce cooked in a cast iron pan will have three times as much iron as a sauce cooked in another pan. Diets low in iron tend to be healthier since iron is necessary for plaque to bind to heart arteries and for cancer to grow. This is one reason why women do not usually get heart attacks before menopause…
