Cool, arent they?

im talking about such fish as bass ,trout red fish. no bones. if so how. i want to eat fish without having to fry it or grill it.

Would appreciate more than one recipe for sauce. Thanks

My husband wants to try something new...whole trouts I mean

They are some type of salmon/trout cross caught in Montana. They have been cleaned (gutted) but still have the skins and heads attatched.

I’ve been allergic to seafood my whole life, when I eat I get really sick. Well my boyfriend absolutely loves it; it is by far his favorite food. We live in Alaska so the freezer is always full of salmon, halibut, trout, and rockfish. Here’s the problem I do all of the cooking (cause I love to cook), and he never, ever complains that I don’t cook fish, but I know he misses it, cause when I attempt to cook (and fail miserably) he praises all of my failed efforts. I’m the kind of cook that I don’t measure anything I do everything by taste and smell, and I can’t cook fish because I can’t taste it. I would love to start reintroducing fish into his diet so I’m looking for some bomb proof but super good recipes, or just some tips on how to cook the water critters can anyone help me?

Please. l have the usual "Food Larder and Herbs and Spices."

Trout. Especially rainbow trout. Take the filet and dip it briefly in egg mixed with water. Then take a couple of cups of seasoned cornmeal and dredge it with that until it is completely covered. Then sautee it in melted unsalted butter, for a few minutes on each side. Finish it by baking it in a 350 degree oven for another 20 minutes or so, depending on the size of the catch.

2 trout fillets
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 teaspoons garlic salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 fresh jalapeno pepper, sliced
1 lemon, sliced
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Rinse fish, and pat dry.
Rub fillets with olive oil, and season with garlic salt and black pepper. Place each fillet on a large sheet of aluminum foil. Top with jalapeno slices, and squeeze the juice from the ends of the lemons over the fish. Arrange lemon slices on top of fillets. Carefully seal all edges of the foil to form enclosed packets. Place packets on baking sheet.
Bake in preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the size of fish. Fish is done when it flakes easily with a fork.
Serves 2.
================

I usually Grill it, Drizzle some Olive Oil on it and Lay the Fish down on the scale Side First and Cook for say 5-7 Minutes, then Flip over and do the Other side the Flesh Side for another 5-7 Minutes whichever the amount of Cooking you Like. Put the Fish on serving Plate and Sprinkle Cracked Pepper and then Lemon on it. If you have Fennel Seeds, after you Grill the Scale side and turn over to do Flesh Side Sprinkle Fennel Seeds on it and Cook the Fish. The Fennel has a Beautiful Aniseed Liquorice Taste.
You can Fry the Fish for 5-7 Minutes on either Side, but I prefer to Grill it.
You can get a Fish Steamer, it is a Long Container with a Raised Tray in the inside and you put Water in the Bottom then Rest the Fish on the Tray and Cook for 7-Ten Minutes. You can put White Wine instead of Water in the Tray. Fish Steamers can be12 Inches or Twenty Inches for big Fish like Salmon.
You could Boil the Fish as well, but I prefer to Grill it or use a Fish Steamer.Bon Appetit.

Got some good recipe ideas ~ the way that AIRFLOW made mention of is what I've done for years and it be one of the quickest ways ;) ... <
Check out the, "Camp Out Trout" recipe on this link ;) . http://www.troutlet.com/Recipes-for-Trou…
Note: For future reference, Trout are one species of fish that skinnin' is not necessary ~ saves ya' a lot of time ;) ;) ...

with olive oil, rock salt and lemon gently and slowly wrapped in foil in the oven - don't over cook it! It will be dry and awful. Serve on bed of quality jasmine rice that has been boiled with saffron and sugar snap peas and small corn on the cobs, fresh nice veg, and a good chilled Chablis.

Good Luck

and good tasting ! :)

You can if you like it, when my fiance' catches trout when we are camping I dip them in milk or egg and then flour, heat oil on the fire in a pan and ohhhh do they get good and crunchy n good. Its a personal preference.

Turkey Recipe Idea..Here is a turkey recipe that also includes the use of popcorn as a
stuffing. Imagine that! When I found it, I thought it was perfect for people
like me, who just are not sure how to tell when poultry is thoroughly
cooked, but not dried out. Give this a try.BAKED STUFFED TURKEY10-15 lb. turkey
1 cup melted butter4 cups stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is good.)2 cups uncooked popcorn (Orville Redenbacher’s Low Fat) Salt & Pepper to tastePreheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush turkey well with melted butter, salt, and pepper. Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn.Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the oven. Listen for the popping sounds. When the turkey’s butt blows the oven door
open and the turkey flies across the room, it’s done.

If anyone from the South answers this question then I know it will be the real McCoy!!
Are they supposed to be fluffy or really thick??? I know they are a side dish for breakfast or dinner. HELP!!!

Hopefully they've been cleaned - if so, open them up and rinse the inside - a little salt and pepper. Insert some thin slices of lemon and some dill weed if you like it.
Put it inside a piece of tinfoil, put a few dabs of butter on top and a little white wine or water. Fold up the foil around the fish so it doesn't leak and cook for about 10 - 12 minutes (depending the thickness - 1" = 10 minutes at 350F).
When they're done - the bones and skin come off easily and it's nice and juicy and flavourful. Hope this helps! Enjoy!

my mom got me some trout yesterday, and i know how to cook it, but just trout to eat isnt so great
any ideas for something to cook with the fiiiish?
thank youuu!! =)

Grilled with some almonds on top.
Delicious

Also, suggest any sides or main meal suggestions.

Any one got any good recipes? I was just thinking about throwing it on the grill with just a touch of seasoning but looking for suggestions.

i prefer thinly sliced lemon
a couple pats of butter
and fresh dill (or sage)
seal tightly in foil
and cook on the grill
but not too long
a couple minutes
then flip for a couple more

caught while fishing

I'm not sure there is a "best" way, but I love whole trout baked in salt. Tuck a bunch of fresh herbs in each trout's body cavity, then lay the fish on a baking tray and completely (completely!) cover them with kosher salt. Sprinkle it with a little water, and then bake for 10-15 minutes in a hot oven.
The salt will form a hard crust, which will pull the skin off when you break it. The fish will be VERY creamy & yummy, and (paradoxically) not at all salty...
Bon appetit!

Every time i make myself something to eat my stepfather expects me to make him some as well. This morning i made myself a bowl of microwave grits he was like "make me a bowl too"..i asked him he hasn't eaten already seeing as he had been up since 9 am(he LOVES to get up early no matter what day it is) and by this time it was like 1145 am. He was like no and ive been hungry since ive been up. I wouldn't mind if it was just once but its EVERY SINGLE TIME. I make my self a pb and j sandwich and he will demand that i make him one too. My step dad is not disabled and perfectly able to make himself something to eat he just wont. I think part of the reason is when he lived with his sisters they catered to his every whim and now he expects my mom and me to do that to. I simply refuse. Now i just sneak around and wait until he leaves the room and make myself something really quick(cereal instant, waffles, pop tarts lol). I think this is insane he is a grown man he should be able to make himself something to eat instead of waiting on someone to do it for him. How do i coerce my step dad into making food for himself?

Or should I defrost first??

i'd like some french toast waffles and pancakes.....
eggs(over easy), sausage and bacon... with syrup on everything
a bowl of crunch berry... some grits(salt and butter),,,, a toaster strudel.... pop tart... chicken legs... and whatever else there may be in your refridgerator

we go trout fishing every year, and the best and easiest way to cook them is on the grill, stuff the cavity with butter, lemon, and garlic, wrap in aluminum foil, and grill (with skin on). YUM! be careful with the tiny bones. good luck

Cool, arent they?

I love rainbow trout, basically you can prepare it like any other fish. It is the tastiest when you fry it in a pan, until the skin is browned and crunchy.
I rub salt, pepper, and tumeric on both sides, let it stands in refrigerator for about 1-2 hours. Then when I am ready to fry it, I will take it out of the refrigerator for about 30 minutes earlier(I think it will cook better if it is at room temperature).
Put oil in the pan, turn the stove on, the oil has to be hot when you put the fish in the pan, this way the skin gets really crunchy.
after about 3-4 minutes lower the heat and let it fry, while the delicious inside is cooking.
Turn it half way through, it doesn't get a long time for the fish to cook, it is so tender. I look at the color and know when it is time to turn.
In case if you need a more pro. recipe, here is one for you.
Enjoy the trout ...

i am going shopping in an hour or so,so if you got any good ideas let me know thanks

and pierogies???
And how do i make grits?

And what should I have with it?

About 10 minutes. When you pick at it with a fork in the middle of the fish, the meat should be white & not clear. You don't want it dry, moist & white.

My way is a little seasoning lemon juice and knobs butter wrap in foil place in the oven medium heat 20 min. Scrummy.

going fishing and i want to cook some trout on a fire

Salt, pepper, milk, a loaf of butter bread, steak sauce, mustard, 2 eggs, flour, oil, a pack of strawberry kool-aid, 2 oatmeal cream pies, mashed potatoes in a box, rice, garlic salt, pizza rolls, a freeze pop, ranch dressing, instant grits, a bottle of Hennessey, chocolate frosting, spaghetti noodles and a bottle of hotsauce

Hello. I've just bought two trout fillets from the supermarket and I want to know:
1. How long to cook them (grill) and on what heat? Shall I wrap them in foil?
2. What can I throw in there to make them a little more tasty? Lemon and almonds maybe? Would that work?

I'm going back to school this semester, and the campus housing I choose, it a little ways away from the main building, I mean a lot aways from the main building. So I'm not going to be going there for breakfast and lunch every day.
So I need to learn how to cook some simple meals. I'm a microwave cook, if it can go in the micro I can cook it.
I know how to make pancake, eggs, grits, fry sasuges. I have one of those george grill and can grill burger and turkey burger.
I can't cook fries, scared of the oil popping on me, so I usually put the fries in the oven and bake them.
Know and simple recipes that a person with little to no cooking skill can learn how to make in a month.

I've never done this before.Any suggestions?

i usually just use seasoning and fry it.
what are some other ways?

Just brought some trout with head and tail on for dinner tonight.
How would you cook this fish for best result.

I know I have to buy one of those basket things to put the fish in but I need some advice for seasonings, batter, cooking times, etc.

all the grit ends up on the bottom of my shake and isn't very palatable. or is it the almond cereal that is down there. I mean I have a great blender why all the stuff on the bottom

I only caught one fish...so Im not so sure about temperature or cook time. I would much rather oven bake it somehow...any ideas?
Thanks y'all!

Would you like Bacon @ Eggs? Or Ham @ Eggs ? Or Sausage @ Eggs ? With Grits AND Biscuits? Just Name It! (smile)

i got some hehe

I would like to bake them instead of frying. But I don't know how to do it..or how long to keep them in the oven. I am going to have 2 smaller sized pancakes with sugar free syrup.
What is another healthy dish to go with that? Eggs? Grits? Oatmeal?
Thanks all who answered

I'm a bit old fashioned when it comes to cooking fresh trout. As a mountain girl, I grew up fishing the rivers and lakes of Northern California and then helped my mom cook the end result. Here's a recipe that you might try:
1 egg mixed in 1/2 cup water
1 cup corn meal
1/2 cup flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
1/2 tsp garlic powder
Clean your fish and remove head, fins and scales. Put in egg mixture and then dredge in cornmeal mixture. Cook in a cast iron skillet that has been heated with your oil (actually bacon grease was the preferred fat!). Cook over medium heat until golden brown and the meat flakes. Yum!

place fillet on big piece of foil
season fillet with salt pepper lemon juice and zest crushed garlic and a pat of butter
add sliced zucchini & tomatoes season them
seal foil tight to make pouches
place puches on baking sheet
bake 15 minutes at 400 degrees
make rice in meantime

I am on a meal plan, and I am trying to think of ways to cook my breakfast, to make it more appetizing, lol. Please let me know if you have any ideas!
My meal plan says two slices of arnold whole wheat bread, which equals 100 calories a slice, or I can substitute a slice with a packet of grits, but she really wants me just getting in the calories...thanks!

My friend caught a 14" Freshwater Brook Trout Sat 2AM, he gutted, cleaned & removed the head for me, then put in Freezer til 4AM, we came home & decided to have it for dinner Sat nite so put it in the Fridge. we ended up going out for dinner, here it is Sunday morning, is it still ok to cook & eat today? or should I forget it?

a little salt and pepper. Flour the fish. Get a prying pan hot with oil that is enough to cover the the fish . put the fish in the hot oil turn the fire down halfway and let cook until light brown in color turn over cook the same way after light brown take out of pan lay on paper towel and let oil drain

I'm looking for ingredients that you can't find at the midwestern American grocery, but that nonetheless would make an invaluable addition to any pantry.
For example: rice flakes. You get these at an Indian grocery; they're dried/flattened rice that you can use as-is as a crust for pan-fried fish, soak in water for an alternative to grits or oatmeal, or soak and let dry until just moist for a fillable fritter. You could even soak them in milk and add to a pancake batter. I'm sure there are many more uses that I haven't even thought of yet.

being the wife of a fisherman I have cooked trout alot...
Pan Fried Trout
Trout, Whole Or Fillets
1/4 cup Cornmeal
1/4 cup Flour
3 tbl Butter
Salt & Pepper, To Taste
Rinse the trout under cold running water. Pat dry.
Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Melt the butter in a large heavy skillet on medium-high heat. Coat the trout in corn meal and flour mix and shake off the excess. When the butter is melted, place the coated trout, flesh side down, in the skillet. Fry 4-5 minutes, then turn and fry 4-5 minutes or until the flesh is golden brown and flaky. (Trout may be seasoned with garlic or onion powder before frying, if desired.)

I know how to make both .

Grits is corn that is processed with lye, giving them a distinctive white coloring.
Boiling water, add grits, reduce to a simmer, stir occasionally for 20 minutes.
Grits go on the plate with your eggs, bacon and toast - you put a blob of butter on top and a bunch of ground black pepper.
Grits, generally, is a hot cereal that originated as a method for filling the bellies of poor farm workers. There isn't a lot of nutrition in grits, but it is a staple of southern US diets.

I am entering this competition coming up soon and i was wondering what would be your way of cooking it? i will have access to pots, pans, a stove, and an oven only. (something that will take 30min or less)
Also, what vegetable and starch accompaniments will go good with it?
and sauce?
thanks a lot for your help!

Baked method would be best.

For bfast im making him some spicy shrimp and grits, french toast and eggs...but idk what i should cook for dinner. He absolutly LOVES my potato salad, so im kinda trying to figure out something i can cook with that, that'll go together, but also very sexy and romantic. I dont think potato salad is a very sexy dish but he love it! Help!

Since we are talking about backpacking, its minimal gear (maybe a lightweight pan on a bp'ing stove. I don't think a campfire is possible with the fire restrictions. Open to creative ideas....

Pan Fried Trout
Reluctant Gourmet’s Tips
1. Use a cast iron fry pan for this meal if you have one.
2. Try margarine instead of butter to reduce smoking.
Pan Fried Trout with Eggs & Fried Potatoes
Cooking Technique = Pan Fry
INGREDIENTS2 Tablespoons margarine
Trout, fresh caught if possible and cleaned
Bacon Fry Coating Mix
1 onion, chopped
4-5 Idaho potatoes, cubed
1 egg for coating, farm fresh if possible
eggs, as many as you like to eat for breakfast
PREP WORK Cleaning the fish: We cleaned the fish just after we caught them by gutting them, cutting off the gills, and most importantly, scraping off the blood line off the backbone.
Chop the onion, cube the potatoes and you are ready to start.
HOW TO MAKE AT HOMEHeat margarine in your fry pan over medium high heat. If you use butter, lower the heat a little to prevent smoking. Add onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes, then add potato. Cook until potato softens up a little, approximately 10 minutes. Make room for the fish.
Rinse the fish under cold water and pat dry with a paper towel. Drying will prevent the fish from steaming when you cook it.
Place fish into egg and coat with Bacon Fry Coating Mix. We used Krusteary Bacon Fry Coating Mix, but I'm not sure this is available outside of McCall, Idaho.
Add fish to the fry pan and cook until golden brown and the meat separates from the backbone. Another way to test for doneness is when the dorsal and pectoral fins pull out easily.
Remove the fish, onions, and potatoes to a plate, cover with foil to keep warm. Cook your eggs any way you please in the fry pan and serve with fish, onions, and potatoes.

We eat our grilled.Slice lemon rounds and put 2 or 3 on each side, wrap in foil and grill 4 mins on each side.Delicious.

If it is a good, fresh trout to me all the marinades and sauces just kill it. Trout is one of my favorite fishes, and what I love about it is the flavor, unlike some of the other fishes where you need to add flavor to give it taste, trout has it's own so why cover that?
I personally am a traditionalist and think there is a reason Trout Almondine is so popular...it just goes so well with it. What I do is cut off the head, season LIGHTLY with salt and a just a bit of my favorite seafood spice mixture, dot with butter inside and sprinkle with almonds (I prefer the larger chopped one vs sliced). Dot top with butter and cook approx 25 min depending on the size. Sprinkle the top with almonds the last 10 min of cooking unless you like them toasted.
BTW do you know how to make sure a trout or any whole fish is fresh? (Besides making sure it has no smell of course). Make sure the eye is clear. If it's not, it's not fresh.

I dont have any lemons or anything citrus, need something thats easy to make and tastes good.

what to you?

Whats the best way to do it? Should I wrap the fish in foil? Should I put lemon and herbs in with the fish? Thank you.

Grits are a popular southern food, this you probably already know. They are ground up Hominy corn.
The traditional way to enjoy grits is simply with salt and butter, but because they are such a wonderful food, southern chefs have employed hundreds of different ways to eat them.
Cooking grits is much like cooking rice or stuffing or any other starchy food. Twice the amount of water is needed. Bring the water to a boil, add some salt for flavor, add the grits and let it simmer down. You can also buy "Quick Grits" (made by Quaker, the same people who do the Oatmeal) and they are very easily microwaveable, and taste exactly the same.
Lots of people (myself included) enjoy grits with shredded cheddar cheese on top or mixed in.

Hi. This evening I bought a couple of trouts from the grocery store. Fortunately they are already gutted and beheaded but they still have the scales and skin. So my questions are as follows:
1) How do I remove the scales and skin?
2) How do I know when trout is ready to be eaten if I choose to pan-fry it?
Thank you in advance for your help :-)

Are we to believe that boiling waters soaks into a grit faster in your kitchen than on any place on the face of the earth?!
Or perhaps the laws of physics cease to exist on your stove! Were these magic grits? I mean, did you buy them from the same guy who sold Jack his beanstalk beans?!
:)

There really isn't much, if any, difference in the taste of slow cook and quick cook grits. Slow cook takes 20 minutes of boiling to cook, while quick cook only takes 5 minutes. Personally, I always buy the quick cook but if you want the old timey traditional experience try the slow cook.
Grits have a very "corny" taste, sort of like corn chips, which doesn't go well with sweet toppings. Grits are meant to be served as a savory hot dish. You can top them with butter or add in other things like bacon or cheese. Here is the basic recipe for a single serving of quick cook grits:
1 cup water
1/4 cup grits
dash of salt
Bring water to a boil and add grits and salt. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, cover, and let stand for 2 minutes before. Serve in a bowl with a pat of butter on top.
For cheese grits, add 1/4 cup of grated cheese (cheddar or your favorite type). For bacon grits, crumble 2 slices of cooked bacon into the bowl and stir. Other tasty additions are ham and scrambled eggs.
Remember, in the South grits aren't just for breakfast. Cheese grits are often served as a side dish for dinner.
Enjoy

What'd it say?

Lay the trout on tin foil (olive oil first!). Julianne red, green and yellow peppers and green onions. Put on the trout and drizzle with more olive oil. I cheat and use Mrs. Dash Garlic & Herb seasoning (but it is SO good). Then, wrap up the trout and put it on the BBQ. Should only take about 5 minutes per side. Then you have your trout, plus steamed veggies to go with! YUMMY!

I want to cook a rainbow trout like a restaurant, that is present it on a plate so it still has all the skin and looks like a rainbow trout but cooked.
I have tried wraping in foil with butter but usually end up leaving half the skin in the foil.
Help!!!! a date might depend on this !!!

What do I need to do before cooking my fresh trout?
Should I skin it? If so, what is the best/easiest way to do so?
Also, what is the best way to cook it?
Thanks so much for your help. I am very new to this!

Whats the best way to cook a 2lb rainbow trout???

I recently tried Trout for the first time at a restaurant and loved it. I am buying some trout fillets Thursday. I am cooking them on the stove, and I have no idea how long it takes. The fillets look to be about a pound or less, so how long should I cook it for?? How do I know it's done? I do cook swordfish all the time on the stove and grill. Is it similar?
Thanks
